Chapter Report • November 1, 2011
Education & Scholarships:
The new Talk About Trees facilitators in the area (Natural Resource Interpretation students from HSU) did a record number of presentations all over the county (Redway, Hydesville, Hoopa, along with the towns closer to campus). The North Coast Chapter continues to support all TAT presentations in this area. The students are already clamoring to start this Fall and we’re in the process of training a new coordinator in this area. We issued ten scholarships last May to three college students and seven high school seniors, many from families in the industry and all very deserving.
Industry Support & Legislative:
A chapter member attended the CaliforniaWomen for Agriculture Legislative Day in May, talking about mostly agricultural bills, but getting to address the THP extension and other timberrelated issues. In addition, our chapter participated in two “contact the legislator” drives in response to increased THP fees and other negative legislative action. We send a big congratulations to CFA for stopping these and an overall favorable legislative session.
Annual Dinner:
We are in the planning stages of our annual fundraising dinner to be held on November 19th in Eureka. Kudos go to the planning committee: Wendy Davis, Ruthann Schulte and Nicole Foley for their work on this event. Please contact anyone in the chapter if you’d like to attend, donate, or buy rifle raffle tickets.
Respectfully submitted,
Dorothy Bianchi
